As part of the world-wide Scout movement Scouts have their own uniform.
The Scout uniform is usually worn for meetings, special events, travelling to and from camps, but isn’t always required for activities. Your section leader will let you know if there are activities, such as ones where you might get dirty, where you can wear casual clothes.
The blue shirt is the main part of today’s uniform, with different coloured sleeves if you’re a Joey, Cub, Scout etc. You will also need navy blue or beige pants or shorts and a Scout belt for formal occasions. The 1st Glen Iris Group scarf and badges are supplied by the Group.
The uniform may be worn before the Scout is “invested” or becomes a member, but the scarf and woggle will only be presented to them at their investiture ceremony and cannot be worn until then.
Appropriate footwear is also needed. Sneakers, sand shoes or other closed toed shoes are good. Bare feet, thongs or crocs are not allowed.
Scouts are “Sun Smart” and need to wear a broad brimmed hat or something similar when participating in any outdoor activities (not caps).
Uniform shirts can be purchased in person from
Snowgum Factory Outlet (1702 Dandenong Rd, Oakleigh East),
or online via The Scout Shop website. The shirts usually cost about $35 to $50. Occasionally, the Group has 2nd hand shirts for sale. Please check with a leader if this interests you.
Scout Badge Placement
All badges need to be sewn onto the sectional Scout shirt in specific locations. The diagrams below show the correct placement.
